Facing away from that which is coming The future approaches from behind.

Facing away from that which is coming
i
s an experiment in trading power. The rules: two performers take turns as giver and receiver of an experience. The giver approaches from upstage, the receiver waits downstage. Trading places and roles, they invent escalating strategies to give the other new sensory experiences through touch, sound, objects, instructions and substances. Risking trust and giving us their faces, two nervous systems are laid bare.

They are accompanied by Esther Shalev-Gerz’s ‘Les Inséparables’ clock where time moves forwards and backwards at once, originally created for Inseparable Angels: An Imaginary House for Walter Benjamin in 2000.

Performed by Nathan Yaffe & Esther Rousseau-Morin
